Ahoy there!

Sharon needs your help!

Over the past couple of weeks our social life has got really busy as all the 'snowbirds' are gathering on their way south and we get invited to cocktails! This is fine but sooner or later the invite is going to be to a 'potluck supper'. This is where you have to bring enough food for 6-8 people and everyone shares. Doing a main course - entree in the U.S (don't ask!) is fine but we're a bit stuffed if we're asked for hors d'ouevres .

These have to be more than peanut & olive type nibbles but not a main course. Lack of recipe books and facilities is causing Sharon a headache as she likes to be prepared! So please, please could she have some recipes based on the following criteria:

1. Its usually hot in the galley so the less time spent in here with the oven on is a big plus.

2. Basic cooking dishes are available but nothing specialised.

3. In the Caribbean you can't always be specific about ingredients. If it's in a tin we can stock up in the U.S. Other than that it has to be fairly standard ingredients preferably that don't have storage problems.

4. It has to be easily transported across a choppy sea in a dinghy!

See the problem. We can't let England 's reputation for haute cuisine down - we need your recipes!

A quick update to what's occurring now. Currently we are at Solomon Island as we needed to do some boat and clothes shopping. The weather is getting cooler (frost next week!) and we had limited warm clothes. We were about to head south to Deltaville to haul out and anti-foul the boat as our insurance company has agreed we can head south whenever we want but we won't be covered for damage with named storms -and guess what hurricane Wilma comes along! She looks like she will cross Florida but is predicted to turn north east and travel up the Atlantic coast. She will get near us on Tuesday and although unlikely to be a full blown hurricane here we will get strong winds and higher than average tides. It all goes to show that in cruising Plan A, and usually plan B never work!

We look forward to all those recipes - and if you can give them a nautical name then so much the better!

Warm regards

Sharon & Andrew
